What is openZmeter?

Smart metering and power quality analysis for the people.

openZmeter (oZm) is an opensource system aimed to help people to analyze and visualize power quality and electric energy in power networks. It has been designed to comply with international standards such as IEC 61000-4-30 and EN 50160 with a very reduced form factor (just a cigarette packet!!).

oZm was born as a collaborative project between the University of Almeria UAL and the University of Granada UGR based on some strong ideas: to offer an effective tool that transparently applies advanced mathematical algorithms, to obtain accurate electrical measurements and open the system to the community to promote awareness in energy saving. Based on the aforementioned ideas and the social responsibility of the university, we feel the commitment to open this result to the community.

As an effort to build a professional grade hardware, it is able to measure single phase RMS voltages with an accuracy up to 0.1%, frequency up to 10 mHz (between 42.5 and 57.5 Hz for european systems) and RMS currents according to different sensor probes (the basic version can handle up to 400 V and 50 A RMS using an onboard Hall effect sensor with a precision of 1%).     Based on STM32 micro and NanoPi Neo Air ARM board.

    Sampling rate of 16525Hz for harmonic measurement up to order 50.

    Voltage, current and frequency data aggregation of 10 cycles, 3 seconds, 10 minutes and 1 hour.

  • Alert system and event management

    ITIC / CBEMA curves, frequency, voltage events.

  • High connectivity

    Wifi and USB ports available. SPI, I2C, UART and PWM are also available

    Measure energy generation and consumption. Suitable for renewable energy systems.
